Armand Bouten
Info
Armand Bouten (Venlo °1893 - Amsterdam °1965) was a Dutch sculptor, painter, draftsman, illustrator, watercolor and gouache artist. Educated at the Rijksnormaalschool voor Teekenonderwijs in Amsterdam, Bouten married fellow artist Hanny Korevaar in 1915. During the 1920s, the couple lived and worked in Budapest, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels and Marseille. In 1957, they returned to Amsterdam, where Bouten passed away in 1965. Nowadays considered to have been one of the major Dutch Expressionists, Armand Bouten lived most of his life in partly self-chosen but definitely undeserved artistic anonymity. His posthumous rediscovery since the 1980s has led to many exhibitions and retrospectives in galleries and museums from Amsterdam to Hamburg and Berlin.
